Read about how alot of guys ride bikes to stay in shape. When i go to the gym I play baksetball (but my back is fucked up so i need to cut that and get checked out) or the elipitical (getting boring for me, looks retarded too).

I know stationary bikes don't burn as many calories, but do they help you lose weight and fat in places like your stomach, chest, etc. b/c you're burning calories? Or is the only noticeable difference in your legs?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The elipitical machine is simply the best IMO. But if you're sick of it. . .

Then I would say the bike is just going to tone your legs while cutting over all body fat. Possibly help abs some as well.

The thing that sucks about the bike is your sessions usually have to be longer like 35-45 mins or so, to be effective.

i agree the eliptical is the best, fuck the treadmill, can't stand it.

if the bike cuts overall body fat, then will that = chest/stomach/legs/etc. looking leaner as well?

I'm fine with doing the bike for 35-45 min...would do the elipitcal for 30-35 minutes when i do it

If you have a naturally muscular bodytype (unlike me) and all that is going on is some fat on top. Then this might very well be true. That you end up toned all over.

Dsethi, there is no such thing as spot reduction. You'll lose the fat from everywhere.

dsethi, recumbent bikes are great. Much less stress on your back.

You don't need to work out any longer on a bike than you would on any other piece of cardio equipment, as long as your intensity is within in your target heart rate.

A great workout in only 20 minutes can be had by simply doing interval training.

Simply put, and so true. The body has very complex and integrated systems that distribute and burn fat.

As long as one breathes hard and sweats, carido is basically interchangeable as far as burning calories. I have also heard the optimum time for cardio is 24 minutes. Of course most everyone does at least a half hour, but FWIW efficiency starts to decline after 24 minutes.

I have even read some studies that show after an hour the benefits start to reverse. Not that you get fatter, but the health benefits slow considerably.

Good post.

With cardio in general, you tend to hold more water too. So it is more difficult to see the difference on the scale. Best thing is to keep at it and use the mirror as your guide.
